67Energy Drinks-Good or Bad?
I have several friends that have a daily routine. Starbucks in the morning, crash around lunch, and a 'Monster Energy Drink' in the afternoon. I always have a tough time watching them drink that big can of sugar and caffeine. What I love about this routine is they are always 'in my face' 20 minutes after they drink them, and then 2 hours later they crash and want to reach for yet another dose of sugar.
What I usually get from my friends in defense is that they just could not be productive without this spike in energy. And as long as they can keep this cycle up, they are productive. I shared with them a little information about the effects sugar has on fat storage, and the idea of the Glycemic Index. In simple terms, these energy drinks are causing their bodies to store more fat, not to mention the 200+ calories they take in.
Most of us think that if we are feeling that energy drinks keep us moving so they must help to work off some of those unwanted pounds. But if adding 300-500 calories a day of nearly pure sugar is the key to weight loss, we would all be Olympic Athletes! Adding just 200 calories per day to your diet will add up to several pounds of weight gain over the course of a year!
So what can my friends do? They need to find alternatives that will not spike their blood sugar levels, and still provide the energy they need. So 'sugar free' drinks may be a solution. Drinks like 'Redbull' come in sugar free version that will take care of the calories issue. The problem some people have, unless they add a few shots of Vodka, is the taste. Being sugar free, the after taste usually sends them running back to those Monster drinks in a heart beat. If you do not mind the taste, sugar free is a good solution.
There are new products coming out that do not use actual sugar, but artificial sweeteners that actually taste good. I found one drink, that not only has no sugar and will NOT spike your blood sugar levels, but also is verified to 'burn as much fat as running for 4 hours". This is killing 2 birds with one stone!! Now it's possible to have the high energy levels with zero crash, AND burn fat at the same time. GBG's Energy Matrix is a solution to those nasty "sweet" drinks and may just be the answer to that gym membership you've always wanted to use. You'll have the energy to get there, and you won't feel bad if you grab a movie instead!!
